The penultimate round of the British Formula one sidecar championship took place over the weekend of 3rd October 2015 at the 3.6 mile Silvertone Grand Prix circuit. The Championship leaders of team AOS/BeWiser with Portsmouth driver Ricky Stevens and Dover based passenger Ryan Charlwood  have one hand on the championship with a 82.5 point lead.

The grid line up was like a who’s who from the sidecar world with former World champions, British champions and multiple Isle of Man TT winners. If they leave Silverstone on Sunday evening with over 100 point lead they would be crowned champions.

Friday’s qualifying saw the pair qualify third behind 2014 World champions Reeves and Cluze and their nearest rivals Peach and Richardson.

With only a second in it the eight lap race would be a tight affair. From the start Ricky and Ryan took the lead in front of Peach and Richardson breaking the lap record into the bargain. On lap three the race was stopped due to a crash involving another sidecar.

Having to do it all again for the five lap restart the pair set off and again broke the lap record and crossed the line five seconds ahead of Peach and Richardson.

Moving into pole position for the 10 lap race on Sunday confidence was high. From the start there was drama involving Peach and Richardson who were hit by another sidecar. Ricky and Ryan avoided the trouble and moved into the lead. Peach had to pull in on lap on for repairs and re-joined the race but it was all too late.

Another majestic performance saw Ricky and Ryan take the chequered flag by 14 seconds from Holden and Ramsay but more important with Peach and Richardson finishing in 12th place the championship was theirs having 106.5 point lead going into the last round at Brands Hatch in two weeks’ time.

In front of family, friends and sponsors the pair were jubilant.

Speaking afterwards Ricky said “I can’t believe this, I knew we were close to winning the championship and winning it here is fantastic. Thanks to all the team and sponsors for everything this season.”

Ryan added “To win like we have is just unbelievable it’s a whole team effort. It’s a dream come true”
